A few weeks ago when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows came out, I ate the coolest new fruit and wanted to blog about it. Dragonfruit just seemed like something Harry and his peeps would eat. (Is that how you spell "peeps"? That's my first time using it in a sentence.) Well, the family loved it and we ate it again tonight!
I like trying new things with my kids. Once we bought every kind of pear at the store and identified them all in the Joy of Cooking and taste-tested to pick our favorite.
When I saw the dragonfruit, it looked so cool I decided to surprise the kids with it. The description at the store was a member of the cactus family. It sure looks it. But it surprised me to cut it open and find the most beautiful hot pink flesh with tiny black seeds. It reminded me of kiwi in a way (which takes me back to my mom giving us kiwi for the first time and made it into a special experience.) We just cut into it and the skin peeled off easily. Then we sliced it and served it. The seeds are edible and have cool texture like kiwi seeds.
Dragonfruit is very refreshing and juicy. My baby boy couldn't get enough of it at dinner. Try dragon fruit if you can find it. It would be gorgeous in a salad or fruit pizza and would make a great smoothie. If you can't find dragonfruit, pick up something in the produce section you've never tried. Check a cookbook or the net if you need prep tips. It's great fun, great for the kids and you might find a new favorite treat.

I just tagged you. You can play if you want, but don't feel obligated!
Here are the rules:1. You have to post these rules before you give the facts.2. Players, you must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of their middle name. If you donĂ¢€™t have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had.3. At the end of your blog-post, you need to choose one person for each letter of your middle name to tag.
