Back to School Shirts

"It's the first day of first grade" she sang as she got ready. Special girls need special back to school clothes. Like past years, I had the girls pick fabric and I sewed them new tops for school. The middle schooler hasn't worn hers to school yet but did wear it to church. I just don't think I got a picture of it.

The little first grader here has coordinating ballerina prints. Is it Alexander Henry? I can't remember and I am too comfy to go check. I bought a ton of this when I was part of the fabric co-op which is no more. Ballet slippers and graceful ballerinas. Very pink and girly and awesome! I used a Portabello Pixie pattern again and I know I will in the future. This was a variation on a peasant top. I used elastic thread for the shirring and will definitely be doing more of that. In fact, I did on the middle schooler's top! How cute is this girl? I didn't have time to make her new bows so she wore the piggie bows from a previous post.

My 5th grader is cool and funky and picked this new Michael Miller knit. It's the carnival print that I have used in cotton and flannel for bags and blankets. It goes with the Patty Young print. The pattern is a ModKid by Patty Young. And can I remember the name right now? No. But you should get it and make it! If you are nervous about sewing knits, don't be! This girl will not stop gushing about how soft and wonderful they feel to her. She especially loves the ruffles down the front and elbow sleeves. They were so easy to sew! This top went together in one evening; just a couple hours. (The pink one did too, but I have made a ton of peasant tops) I have wanted to do more with knits and this fabric is INSPIRING! Isn't she cute? (In the background above is my Disney World purse. I made it for my Disney trip last year and used the heck out of it!)
